HORSE RIDING HEAVEN
Riders are attracted to the Mary Valley region because of its exceptional world-class forest trails. Nowhere else can you ride through natural eucalypt, plantation pine and rainforest to mountain tops with spectacular views in the one outing.
You will love the quality and variety of equine events held in Mary Valley Country. Mary Valley Country offers horse riders a network of trails with everything from beginner’s short rides, authentic camp-out trails to the rodeo, campdraft and endurance training. Only 40km from Kandanga is the Australian National Trail which connects Cairns to Melbourne.

Short Trail Rides

Here are some easy ride options
  1. Leave the float at Imbil showgrounds and follow Diggings Rd. Turn right onto Western Creek Rd for access to network of forestry trails. Alternatively continue on Diggings Rd and take the access road at the Bellbird habitat.
  2.  On route to Borumba Dam just before Yabba Crossing No1 take a left onto Caseys Gully Rd. This forest road opens up at a crossroads with plenty of flat areas to park. To the left is Western Ck Rd leading to Diggings Rd and Imbil toward the right leads you up to Derrier Hill. A short way down from there is a bridge and creek crossing which is cool and refreshing on a hot day and chance to water your horse.
  3.  Alternatively, further along, the road to Borumba Dam after Crossing No3 turn left onto Sterlings Rd. Sterlings Crossing is wide and cool for a picnic and swim. Continue on to park the float. Straight ahead on this road turns into Derrier Rd then Araucaria Ck Rd. Keep an eye out for a sign on the left “Site of the Foreign Legion”. This was a timber cutters area and offers crystal clear water and a peaceful break.
  4.  Conondale National Park, Charlie Moreland Camping Provides horses with yards, water and access to forest trails. You can leave your float at a number of stops from Imbil. These are easy grade forest roads close to town where you can explore the creeks.
STATE FOREST REGULATIONS
The Queensland Government has recognised that horse riding has long been a part of the state’s lifestyle and character. Horse riding trails are a strip of forest reserve tenure where the surrounding forest reserve transfers to national park. Horse riding is not allowed on existing national parks.
Many of these forest reserves are valued by horse riders as safe, scenic places to ride.  State forests and national parks offer ideal camping and recreation facilities for the horse enthusiast.

SAFETY FIRST
Always let someone know where you are going and when you will be back as mobile coverage and signage is limited on forest trails.
Care should be taken as trail bikes, logging trucks and vehicles operate on these roads.
